Karthik Nadesan

A founding partner of Nadesan Beck, Mr. Nadesan’s practice is primarily focused on commercial and product liability litigation, with a concentration on intellectual property and unfair competition disputes. Mr. Nadesan also has extensive experience in contract negotiations and drafting commercial and intellectual property agreements. In addition, Mr. Nadesan handles personal injury and employment litigation cases.

Prior to founding Nadesan Beck, Mr. Nadesan was an associate at the Salt Lake City office of Snell & Wilmer, L.L.P., a large southwest regional law firm. At Snell & Wilmer, Mr. Nadesan represented a range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small businesses, with a practice concentrated in commercial and product liability litigation.

Mr. Nadesan is admitted to practice before the Utah Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the District of Utah. He is currently the President of the Utah State Bar Young Lawyers Division and has served as a non-voting member of the Utah State Bar Commission from 2007. He also serves as the Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Minorities in the Profession Committee. Mr. Nadesan was recently selected as a Mountain States Rising Star for 2008 and 2009 by SuperLawyers magazine, and was an American Bar Association YLD Minorities in the Profession Committee Scholar from 2007 through 2008.

Mr. Nadesan served as President of the Utah Minority Bar Association from 2006 through 2007, Young Lawyers Division liaison to the American Bar Association Forum Committee on Communications Law from 2006 through 2008, and Utah State Bar Young Lawyers Division “And Justice for All” Committee Chair from 2004 through 2007. He has been a member of the David K. Watkiss-Sutherland II Inn of Court since 2004.

Mr. Nadesan graduated from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney School of Law in 2004. While attending the S. J. Quinney School of Law, Mr. Nadesan was a Leary Scholar, received the W.J. Mitchell Family Endowed Merit Scholarship and was winner of best oral argument at the Southerland Moot Court competition. He also received outstanding achievement awards in Torts, Advanced Legal Research, and Real Estate Drafting, as well as a CALI Excellence in the Law award for Real Estate Drafting. While attending law school, Mr. Nadesan represented the University of Utah at the Saul Lefkowitz National Moot Court Competition on Trademark and Unfair Competition, and interned for the Honorable Judith M. Billings on the Utah Court of Appeals.

In 1997, Mr. Nadesan received his B.A. cum laude from the Cornell University College of Arts and Sciences. He graduated on Dean’s List, with a double major in Philosophy and Biology, and honors in Neurobiology and Behavior. Mr. Nadesan subsequently attended graduate programs in Human Genetics and Philosophy at the University of Utah through 2004. While attending these graduate programs, Mr. Nadesan received a Research Recruitment Grant and a Teaching Assistant Scholarship, served as a Scientific Integrity Fellow, and was one of the first recipients of the Barbara & Norman Tanner Fellowship for the Prevention of Violence.

In addition, Mr. Nadesan has served as a Director for the S.B. Dance Company in Salt Lake City, Utah, as Representative to the United Nations UNDPI/NGO and ECOSOC committees for the Sri Lanka Anti Narcotics Association from 1997 through 2000, and as a research assistant on the Human Genome Project at Columbia University in 1992. He is also a PADI-certified rescue diver and a PSIA-certified professional snowboard instructor.

Michael Beck

A founding partner of Nadesan Beck, Mr. Beck’s practice is primarily focused on business transactional work, including negotiating and drafting a wide range of commercial agreements, consultation and protection of intellectual property, sponsorship and endorsement agreements, and other transactional needs of small businesses and individuals in the entertainment, outdoor, and sports and recreation industries. Mr. Beck also has experience in intellectual property, employment, and commercial litigation.

Prior to establishing Nadesan Beck, was Of Counsel at Manning Curtis Bradshaw & Bednar, LLC, where his practice was focused on business transactional work and commercial litigation. He also worked as a summer associate at Turner Green Afrasiabi and Arledge LLP, an intellectual property litigation firm in Orange County, and at the Law Offices of Henry Root P.C., an entertainment and sports law firm in Santa Monica, California. Mr. Beck received his Juris Doctor from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney School of Law in 2004. While attending law school, Mr. Beck focused his studies on intellectual property, international law, and litigation. In the summer following his second year, Mr. Beck attended the Cornell/Université Paris I Sorbonne Institute of International Law. Additionally, along with Mr. Nadesan, Mr. Beck won best oral argument at the Southerland Moot Court Competition and was chosen to represent the University of Utah at the Saul Lefkowitz National Moot Court Competition on Trademark and Unfair Competition.

In 2001, Mr. Beck received his B.A. from the University of Utah. He was on the Dean’s List and graduated with a major in Political Science and a Certificate of International Relations, and received a minor in French. Mr. Beck also focused on environmental studies and economics during college.

Before attending college, Mr. Beck was a nationally-ranked rock climber who traveled extensively, repeating and doing first ascents of some of the most difficult climbs in the world, and competing in both national and World Cup-level competitions. Mr. Beck lived in Taiwan was head coach of the Taiwanese National Climbing Team for the 1998 season, and worked as a climbing guide for Exum Guides throughout the 1990’s. Mr. Beck has done product design, sales, and other commercial work for several companies in the outdoor industry. Additionally, Mr. Beck has been featured in many magazine and newspaper advertisements and articles, and was a principal actor and stunt coordinator in a national commercial spot for Miller Beer. He also co-authored a climbing guide to the state of Utah during law school, titled "A Bouldering Guide to Utah," the most comprehensive overview of the subject available and often referred to as the “Black Bible” (because of it’s color!)

Mr. Beck is currently the Access Chair on the board of directors for the Salt Lake Climbers’ Alliance, a non-profit organization helping to secure climbing access and promotion in the region. Mr. Beck continues to be an active climber, and also enjoys surfing, traveling, guitar, art and film. He is married and has a son named Conrad.
