Of counsel, Ivan LePendu, has a practice focused primarily on criminal law with extensive experience handling felonies, misdemeanors, and juvenile cases. Additionally, Mr. LePendu handles medical malpractice, injury cases, and collections work. Mr. LePendu is admitted to practice before the Utah Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the District of Utah.
Prior to joining Nadesan Beck, Mr. LePendu worked at the Utah Attorney General’s Office, University of Utah Hospital Risk Management, Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, and the Washington County Attorney’s Office. In these positions Mr. LePendu worked on collections cases for debts owed to the state, medical malpractice issues in the hospital, and criminal prosecutions.
Mr. LePendu was the Associate Director of Risk Management for the University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics. In that role he helped assess risk throughout the organization and analyzed patient issues for malpractice liability, and exposure that the Hospital had to litigation. Additionally Mr. LePendu worked with other departments to analyze the root causes of incidents so changes could be made to reduce risk throughout the organization.
As a prosecutor Mr. LePendu handled cases in Juvenile Courts, Justice Courts, and District Courts in Utah. He has extensive experience handling all kinds of criminal matters from traffic violations and misdemeanors through serious felonies. His trial experience covers most felonies including: burglaries, thefts, drug possession and selling, and assaults. Additionally, Mr. LePendu was the lead DUI prosecutor for the West Jordan Office of the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, handling many felony level DUI cases.
Mr. LePendu graduated from the University of Utah SJ Quinney College of Law in 2006, and was a recipient of the David T. Lewis Clinical Award for participation in the Health Law and Criminal Law Clinics. Mr. LePendu focused his studies in law school on criminal law and litigation. During his second year Mr. LePendu volunteered at the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah, where he assisted with civil and criminal cases.
Before attending law school Mr. LePendu earned a Master of Business Administration from Westminster College. In addition to the MBA, Mr. LePendu has extensive experience in finance and securities having been registered as a trader for the NASD and working as a financial analyst. Mr. LePendu’s undergraduate studies were in psychology, and he received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Utah.
In addition to legal work, Mr. LePendu is active in the Utah Rugby Union, he is an assistant coach for Wasatch Rugby, a local high school team, as well as a referee for all levels of the game in Utah. Mr. LePendu has also had the opportunity to referee rugby at tournaments in California, New York, and Nevada.
